Answers to your questions about legal processes.
Is hiring a lawyer mandatory?
In the Turkish legal system, retaining a lawyer is not mandatory for most cases; individuals may represent themselves. However, legal representation is required in serious criminal cases and certain civil proceedings. Even where optional, professional representation ensures correct procedural filings, proper presentation of evidence and adherence to deadlines.
What areas of law do you practise?
Our office provides legal consultancy and litigation services in criminal law, family law, labour law, commercial and corporate law, contract law, administrative and tax law, enforcement and insolvency law, intellectual property law, and GDPR/IT law.
Is mediation mandatory?
Under Turkish law, mediation is a pre-condition for certain disputes before a lawsuit may be filed. Labour disputes — such as severance, notice pay and reinstatement — and a significant portion of commercial disputes fall within mandatory mediation. Cases filed without first applying to a mediator may be dismissed on procedural grounds.
How long do cases typically take?
Duration varies depending on the type of dispute, court workload and the parties' conduct. In Turkey, labour and family cases average 1–2 years, commercial disputes 1–3 years, and criminal cases 1–4 years depending on complexity. Timelines may extend further if appeals to the Regional Court or the Court of Cassation are pursued.
Can you handle cases outside Ankara?
Yes. We handle cases nationwide across all provinces and districts. Client communication throughout the process is conducted by telephone, video call and secure digital file sharing, so distance is not an obstacle. For hearings requiring physical attendance, we travel to the relevant courthouse.
Can I receive legal advice online?
Yes. Consultations can be conducted by telephone, video conference or in writing. Documents are shared via secure digital methods and you are kept informed at every stage. For matters that normally require an in-person visit to our office, remote solutions via a notary can be arranged.
